Shortcuts, Widgets and Sharing
Shortcuts and Siri
Use these actions in the Shortcuts app, or ask Siri:
| Action | Does |
|---|---|
| Add to Inbox | Saves text to a project's Inbox |
| Create Checkpoint | Records a checkpoint of a project |
| Compile Manuscript | Compiles a project with a preset |
| Open Scene | Opens a scene in Five Rooms |
| Today's Word Count | Tells you how many words you've written today |
| Start Writing Sprint | Starts a sprint of so many minutes (see Writing Sprints) |
Widgets
- Words Today: the words you've written today and this session.
- Next Scene: the next scene in the project you're writing, with its synopsis.
On the Lock Screen, widgets show counts but not your text, not even the project or scene titles. To show titles and scene synopses there too, turn on Show titles and synopses on the Lock Screen in Settings > Spotlight & Widgets.
Share to Five Rooms
In any app, choose Share > Five Rooms to save text, a link, pictures or files to a project's Inbox. They're filed the next time you open Five Rooms. Files larger than 250 MB aren't added. From Safari, Clip the article saves the page as a research clip (see Research and Citations).
Focus
In Focus settings, add the Set Writing Projects filter to a Focus to show only chosen projects while it's on.
Spotlight
Spotlight doesn't search your projects unless you allow it. To choose which projects it searches, open Settings > Spotlight & Widgets. The index stays on your device.
More windows
On Mac and iPad, open the Corkboard, Outliner, Beats, Timeline, Chronology, Shape, Checks, Comments, History or All statistics page in a separate window, for example on a second display. On Mac, choose View > Open page in New Window; on iPad, New Window in the ⋯ menu. Each window follows your selection in the contents.
