Terms of use
Plain terms.
For the apps, which you get from the App Store, and for Five Rooms on the web, a small service open by invitation. By using them you agree to these.
The apps
Five Rooms for Mac, iPad and iPhone is sold through Apple's App Store under Apple's standard licence terms for apps, which apply alongside these. The apps work without an account and keep your projects on your devices and in your own iCloud.
Five Rooms on the web
Five Rooms on the web (create.fiverooms.app) is provided by Mark Perry in Australia. It's free, open by invitation, and offered as it is, while it's still being built. Each free account has limits on storage, projects, reader links and connected agents, shown on your account page. We may change the limits, or the service, and will tell you in the app before a change that affects your work.
Your writing is yours
You own what you write. We claim no rights in it, and because it's encrypted with keys only your devices hold, we can't read it. You give us only the permission we need to store and deliver your encrypted data, and, for a project you make readable to agents, to open it while an agent you've connected works on it.
Your account
- Use your own invitation, one account each, and a name that is yours or a pen name. Invitations can't be sold or passed on in bulk.
- You sign in with passkeys. Keep your recovery key safe: if you lose every passkey, every paired device and your recovery key, we can't get your projects back for you, because we never have the keys.
- You're responsible for what happens through your account, including agents you connect and reader links you share.
Fair use
Don't use the service to break the law, to store or share material that infringes someone else's rights or exploits anyone, to attack or overload the service, or to get at other accounts. We can't see your projects, so we act on what we can see (such as unusual load) or on credible reports. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms; suspending deletes nothing, and we'll tell you why.
Keep your own copies
We take care with your data, but things can go wrong. Keep your own copies: the Mac and iPad keep daily backups, every project exports as a package, and Export everything on the web saves every project there the same way. We aren't liable for lost work beyond what the law requires.
Ending
You can delete your web account at any time on your account page: everything the servers hold for it is deleted, as the privacy notice says, and your Apple devices keep their own copies. If we ever close the web service, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice in the app so you can export your projects.
The law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Nothing in them limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Where the law lets us, our liability for the service is limited to supplying it again.
