For screenwriters and playwrights
Scripts, in the right format.
A script is a project like any other in Five Rooms: planned on cards, written scene by scene, revised with checkpoints and comments, and published to the page the way the industry expects it.
Screenplays
Written in Fountain with the element a keystroke away: Tab to the next, ⌘1–⌘6 to choose. Paginated as screenplay software does, with (MORE) and (CONT'D), dual dialogue, and a title page. Exported as PDF, Final Draft (FDX) or Fountain.
Stage plays
US or UK layout, with acts and scenes, a cast of characters page, a setting page, and page numbers by act and scene. Directions bracketed, lyrics set apart. Word and PDF.
Musicals
A play with songs: each number labelled, the singers listed, a musical-numbers page generated, and the book, music and lyrics credited to the right people.
Radio plays
Scenes numbered through the play, technical directions set apart, speech numbers per page for the studio, and the running time against the usual slots.
Sitcoms
Multi-camera format: acts of lettered scenes, sluglines, the cast of each scene, action in capitals with entrances and exits underlined, double-spaced dialogue.
Import
Fountain, Final Draft and Scrivener's script mode come in as scripts, with acts and scenes placed in the binder and every word checked on arrival.
Beyond the page.
Cast and doubling
Every cue puts a character on stage, so the cast page writes itself and the story pages know who's in each scene. For a play with a small company, Five Rooms suggests which roles one actor can double and where the quick changes are.
Speeches and running time
Speeches and words of dialogue per character, songs per singer, and a running time from the script's own pagination: a page a minute, half that for a sitcom, with a note when a radio play misses its slot.
Submission pack
Synopsis, cover letter, character breakdown, sample pages, development history, pitch and logline, each from its own page in the project, built together in one go.
The same rooms
Index cards and beat sheets for the plan, research beside the script, checkpoints and comments for the rewrite, and the formats above to publish.
Plan it. Write it. Hand it in.
