Corkboard
The corkboard shows the documents in a folder as index cards, with the title, synopsis, point of view, status, tags and word count. A card's top edge is its point of view's colour (or its label's). Open the Plan room and choose Corkboard, then a layout from the menu at the top right: Grid, Freeform or Swimlanes.
Grid
Cards in the contents' order. Drag a card onto another to move it before that one; the contents change to match.
When the folder holds chapters, such as a part, each chapter is a column of its scenes' cards under its number and title. Drag cards within a column or across to another chapter; drop one in the space below a column's cards to put it last.
Freeform
Put cards wherever you like, to cluster ideas or sketch a structure. Drag a card to move it. Cards you haven't placed sit in a grid below the ones you have.
Moving cards doesn't change the contents. When you're happy with the board, choose Arrange ▸ Order Contents by Position: the contents take the order the board reads in, row by row from top to bottom, and left to right within a row. Tidy Up puts every card back in a grid.
Each arrangement keeps its own board, and positions sync to your other devices.
Swimlanes
Every scene in the arrangement, in reading order, split into lanes by a field: point of view, status, label, setting, section type, beat or a list field of your own. Choose the field from the Lanes menu at the top right.
With Line Up by Reading Order on, the columns are shared across lanes, so each column is a moment in the book and you can see who carries each stretch. The chapter each scene belongs to is shown above the columns. Turn it off to pack each lane's cards together.
Drag a card to another lane to change its value: moving a scene into the Revised Draft lane sets its status to Revised Draft. Show Empty Lanes gives every value a lane, so you can drag a card into one no scene uses yet.
A lane for a character or place lists those from Cast & Places. Scenes with no value are in the last lane.
Heatmap and filters
The Heatmap menu (the flame) tints cards by how much you've rewritten them and marks cold scenes; see Revision Heatmap and Cold Scenes. While the contents are filtered, the Filtered menu chooses between hiding the other cards and dimming them in place (see Filtering the Contents).
Research, notes and characters
The corkboard and outliner also show Research & Notes and the Publishing folders: choose them from the tile above the contents. These documents aren't scenes, so their cards show only what they have (title, synopsis, words), the heatmap and swimlanes are left out, and the outliner hides the scene columns (point of view, setting, beat and the like).
In the Characters folder (choose Research & Notes from the tile above the contents), each character's study page is a cast card: their colour along the top, their portrait (the page's first photo), their role, and how many scenes they're in. Control-click a card (or touch and hold) and choose Open Character Study or Show in Cast & Places.
A scene card's foot names its point of view briefly: the character's first "Also called" name, else their first name, skipping titles such as Mr. or Inspector.
