Coming from Scrivener

Bring the whole project.

Five Rooms imports Scrivener 3 projects as they are: the binder, the words, and the history behind them. Keep writing in Scrivener while you try it, and bring the changes across as often as you like.

What comes across.

The binder and the text

Folders and documents in their order, with synopses, notes, labels, status and custom metadata. Italics, underlining, centred lines and lists stay as they were, and a poem set with indents or line breaks arrives as verse.

Snapshots as history

Each document's snapshots come in as its history, dated when you took them, rather than being left behind.

Keywords and comments

Keywords become tags. Comments and highlights become margin comments, and a coloured comment goes into a category of that colour.

Links and collections

Links stay links, including links to other documents in the project. Collections come too.

Your writing history

Scrivener's words per day fill in Five Rooms' year of writing, so your record starts where it really began.

Scripts

A project written in script mode becomes a screenplay, a stage play or a radio play, in the right format.

Move over gradually.

Import the same project again and only what changed in Scrivener since is merged. Nothing you wrote here is lost.

Changed in one place

Text changed only in Scrivener is updated; text changed only in Five Rooms is kept.

Changed in both

Your Five Rooms text is kept and Scrivener's version is offered beside it as a suggestion. A changed order in both becomes a second arrangement.

Never backwards

A checkpoint is taken before every import, and an older copy of a project is never imported over a newer one.

Every word checked

The import report confirms that every word arrived and lists anything that couldn't be brought across exactly.

And then.

A whole folder at once

Choose a folder and every Scrivener project in it comes in, one after another, the newest copy of each, with one report at the end.

On every device

The same project on your Mac, iPad and iPhone through your own iCloud, with no syncing folders to manage.

Mind maps too

Scapple boards come in as mind maps in the Plan room, with their notes, lines and shapes.

In the browser

Five Rooms on the web imports a Scrivener project, zipped or as its folder, and brings in later changes the same way. Word manuscripts come in there too.

Scrivener and Scapple are trademarks of Literature & Latte Ltd. Five Rooms isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Literature & Latte. Scrivener 2 projects need opening and saving in Scrivener 3 first.
