A journal is a blog or newsletter kept as one project. Each post is planned, written and revised in the same rooms as a book, then goes out to Substack or wherever you publish.
From idea to published
Every post is an Idea, a Draft, Scheduled or Published. The first time one goes out it takes the next number and today's date, and numbers never shift when you move or delete posts.
A board of what's next
Plan shows your posts in a column for each status, so you can see what's an idea, what's being drafted and what goes out when. Drag a card to change its status.
Posts in sections
Write a long post in sections and plan them on cards. The post goes out as one piece, with one title and its notes numbered through.
Opening and sign-off
The words every post starts and ends with, written once. A new post begins with a copy of them to keep or change, and the post's number, title and date are filled in when it goes out.
Merge tags kept
[FIRSTNAME] and your platform's other tags stay exactly as you type them, never marked as spelling mistakes or counted as words.
Copy for Substack
Copy a post with its formatting and paste it into Substack's editor, or any other. Or send it as a web page, Word, Markdown or plain text.
Bring your blog with you.
Import from Substack
Type your publication's address and every post comes in on its date, numbered in order, with its tags, links and pictures. Import Substack's export to bring drafts and paid posts too.
Keep them in step
Import the same address again and only new posts are added. A post changed on Substack is updated unless you've changed it here.
The journal as a book
Every post, oldest first, as an ebook or a paperback, with the opening pages made from your journal's title and your name.
The same rooms
Research beside your drafts, checkpoints before a rewrite, the checks for the slips you stop seeing, and writing sessions to get the next one done. Several blogs sit together as a series in the Library.
